About Counselling

Minimalist Chairs

At Claire's Counselling Service, I create a warm and welcoming environment for anyone dealing with anxiety, sadness, or emotional challenges. Together, we’ll focus on exploring your feelings, fostering personal growth, and building self-awareness.

I qualified as a counsellor in 2022 after studying Therapeutic Counselling with Herne Bay Counsellor Training, and I am a Registered member of BACP. My approach is grounded in the humanistic modality, which emphasizes the belief that everyone has the potential for personal growth and the ability to make positive changes in their lives. Humanistic counselling recognizes that we are all unique and capable of overcoming challenges with the right support. As your counsellor, I will work with you in a friendly and empathetic manner, listening without judgment and encouraging you to explore your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Together, we will deepen your understanding of yourself and I will help you make decisions that align with your true values and desires. A key aspect of our work will be fostering a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship, creating a safe space for you to be open and honest as you embark on your healing and growth journey.

What to expect from counselling sessions with me

Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere: From our very first meeting, I’ll work to create a relaxed and friendly environment where you feel safe, heard, and respected, so you can share openly.

Careful Listening: I’ll listen attentively to what you have to say, ensuring I don’t interrupt or rush to offer solutions. My focus will be on understanding the patterns in your thoughts and the emotions behind them.

Open Exploration: I'll encourage you to discuss anything on your mind, whether it’s a specific challenge like stress or anxiety, or just general feelings about your life. I won’t dictate your thoughts or actions; instead, I’ll ask open-ended questions to help you dive deeper into your feelings and experiences.

Empathy and Unconditional Regard: I will offer empathy by understanding your perspective and providing unconditional positive regard, meaning I fully accept you, no matter what you share. This acceptance helps create a safe space for exploring tough emotions.

Self-Discovery and Reflection: As we talk, I might gently reflect or paraphrase your words to help you gain new insights. This can give you a fresh perspective and lead to meaningful realisations about your life or situation. I’ll also encourage deeper reflection and ask questions to help you better understand your emotions.

Personal Growth and Goal Setting: Over time, I’ll support you in developing greater self-awareness and understanding your values and desires. Together, we may set goals aimed at enhancing your well-being, developing coping strategies or improved relationships.

My Role: My focus will be on supporting you while you explore your thoughts and feelings, without giving direct advice. Your personal growth is my priority, and I’ll provide encouragement while respecting your independence.

End of Session: As we wrap up a session, we’ll take a moment to review what you’ve discussed and any insights you’ve gained. Some people find it helpful to reflect on what was beneficial and may set an intention or goal for their next session.
